Basic certification requirements for a Certified Prevention Specialist are:
 
  •         Bachelor's Degree
  •         2000 clock hours of ATOD prevention work experience
  •         150 hours of training that have occurred within the past 10 years. 
  •         Of these 150 hours the following are required:  

                  + 6 hours of prevention specific ethics

                  + a maximum of 40 hours of on-line training and

                  + a maximum of 40 hours in-house training

  •        120 hours of supervision by a Certified Prevention Specialist
  •        Passing score on the IC&RC Prevention Specialist Exam

    EFFECTIVE APRIL 24, 2020:  Due to COVID19, the Kentucky Certification Board
    has made the decision to suspend the maximum limit
    (20 hours for recertification and 40 hours for initial certification)
    of online training hours allowed until futher notice.
 
   Webinars with no certificate will require a description of the webinar, the date, the sponsoring agency and proof of length of webinar.
 
Reminder: Justifications are important for demonstrating an understanding of the relationship between the online training and the task(s) associated with the prevention performance domains.
